About Autism Matters

Autism Matters, Inc. is a private corporation offering center-based services for families and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or other diagnoses. We help children reach their full potential by combining the expertise of nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychotherapists, BCBAs and Behavior Technicians by collaborating together to best provide services to our clients.

Job Description

The role of a Behavior Technician at Autism Matters is to provide direct, behavior therapy to children with Autism or other disorders. Behavior therapy sessions include utilizing ABA teaching procedures across intensive teaching and natural teaching environments. A Behavior Technician is responsible for the delivery of direct Verbal Behavior Therapy to the clients through instruction, guidance and example. They are responsible for assuring quality care and a well maintained and organized therapy environment.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Be able to work between the hours of 8 AM – 5 PM Monday through Friday, some potential flexibility
  • Must meet ONE of the EIDBI Levels (1,2, or 3) qualifications for education and/or experience:

Level 1:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in one of the mental health professional disciplines or have a master’s degree in a mental health field
  • Have 2,000 hours of clinical experience and/or training

Level 2: (must meet one of the bullet points)

  • Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral or child development science or a related field AND have 1,000 hours of clinical experience, OR completed approved graduate coursework, OR be a BCaBA or RBT
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelors degree program in one of the behavioral or child development sciences or related fields and will receive 1,000 hours of supervision
  • Have 4,000 hours of supervised clinical experience (2 years full-time experience)

Level 3: (must meet both of the bullet points)

  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Have one year experience as a primary care assistance worker, health worker, waiver service provider or special education assistant

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Completes and passes with 80% accuracy the competencies within the first 90 days of employment
  • Must maintain competencies with 85% score annually after initial competencies assessment
  • Provides active treatment and training to clients in the areas of self-help, language development, control of challenging behaviors, community living, safety, social skills, and gross and fine motor development
  • Conduct 1:1 and 2:1 therapy sessions to improve clients' mental and physical well-being (session length up to 4 hours per client)
  • Obtain information from medical records, staff, family members and the clients to assess clients' capabilities, needs and interests
  • Observe, analyze, and record clients' participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions on documentation forms
  • Consistently implement programs/targets on an on-going basis to ensure client is actively engaged and receiving high quality therapy
  • Ensures that client routine daily tasks (e.g. toileting, grooming, etc.) are completed as necessary
  • Completes and maintains timely and effective written documentation of daily progress notes and other documentation forms with minimal errors
  • Attends and participates in client and staff meetings and/or observation and direction sessions and implements feedback provided
  • Upholds company values of being client-focused, ethical, supportive, dedicated, and having integrity

Physical Requirements

  • Stand/Walk: Constantly, 67-100% of time
  • Sit: Frequently, 34-66% of time
  • Lift/Carry up to 50 lbs.: Occasionally, 1-33% of time
  • Squat/Kneel: Constantly, 67-100% of time
  • Push/Pull: Frequently, 34-66% of time
  • Please note that this position involves physical activity such as bending, lifting, and assisting clients with prompting.

Applicants must be able to do the following:

  • Be able to sit, stand, and kneel throughout the day
  • Be able to work between the hours of 8:00a-5:00p Monday through Friday
